September 5th, 1635.

A few days previous I'd captured the Spanish metropolis 'o Cartagena.  Tha place didn't put up much 'o fight 'cos fer some reason tha place wus devoid 'o redcoats! (must have been off fightin a war somewheres!)  Anyhow, thirty 'o me scurviest bastids made short work 'o tha townsfolk 'n we took tha Gov's place with ease.

Now, me hearties, about a week later I be sailing between Cartagena and Santa Marta when I comes across a lone trade ship running down wind of two pursuing Spanish Frigates.

After watching tha hardy little Brig put up a gallant fight, I decides ta step in 'n give tha brave souls a 'elping hand. So I sets me sights on one 'o tha Frigates 'n orders me men ta prepare fer boarding.  But just as we turns hard ta starboard and moves in for the kill, tha blimmy Brig slams a point-blank broadside into tha unsuspecting dons, instantly blasting tha Frigate ta bits!  Me men watched in awe as the traders pulled away and headed for the other Frigate.

So, mateys, I decides ta continue wit me boarding action against tha first Spanish ship before she sinks.  We gets aboard 'n and within a minute tha yeller bastids strike thar colours.  After a quick pillaging, we ungrapples and goes ta see how tha lil' trade ship faired in it's melee with tha other Spanish warship.

Well, shiver me friggin' timbers!  I sails on over and right before me one good eye I sees tha blimmy Frigate engulfed in flames!  It seems as though tha Brig had blasted tha shit outta 'em!

Anyhow, I has ta appease me crew cos they be wantin' ta plunder all tha ships present, but I tells 'em dat tha crew 'o that thar trade ship deserves our upmost respect.  So after raising tha Jolly Roger, tha fore mentioned Brig spy's me Galleon bearing directly on her position and decides she's had enough fightin' fer one day.  She strikes her colours 'n waits fer me murderous bastids ta board her.

Well mates, before I orders me men ta get on over thar, I calls across to tha Cap'n of that thar vessel 'n salutes tha bugger on tha great seamanship he showed in defeating tha two Spanish warships.

Wasn't long before me men got ta work on boarding his fine vessel an' securing it as a prize booty fer me goodself. Needless ta say, I couldn't bring meself ta execute those hardy sailors, so I invites tha Captain aboard me Grim Reaper fer a rum 'o two.
We talked fer nigh on two hours and I gave tha swine a grand tour 'o me flag ship.  Showed him all tha spoils 'o war we'd recently taken from Cartagena.  Ta say tha Git wus overwhelmed wus an understatement.  Anyhow, I asks tha lad if'n he 'n his brave crew would like ta join me 'an sail tha seven seas as scurvy pirates.  I gives tha swab a few minutes ta talk it over wit his crew and he comes back say'n his mates had had enough 'o trading 'n wanted ta earn some real loot!

After signing the pirate articles, twenty hardy bastids and one grand Cap'n became tha latest members 'o Coggy's crew.
We all celebrated that night by sailin into Santa Marta and burning tha place to tha ground.

Cap'n Cognito, 5th day 'o September, 1635.
